2nd Annual Homebrewed Beer Contest FAQ Information
Who/What is Cape Fear Biofuels?
We are a non-profit group dedicated to expanding the use of renewable, sustainable produced fuels in southeastern North Carolina
Why a homebrewed beer competition?
First, because everyone loves beer (thats a given!). Second, because homebrewed biodiesel and homebrewed beer have a lot in common. Both are easily produced after a little research and a few trips to the hardware store.
What goes on at the event?
300+ of your closest friends will arrive between 7-8 PM. Beers will be sampled from 7-10PM. Bluegrass will be provided by The Casserole. Food will be provided by the Mellow Mushroom.. great combination, eh?
Brewer Specific
How much beer do I need to bring?
Well leave this up to you. Last year we asked everyone to bring a batch.this might have been a little much. 3-5 gallons is probably a safe bet. We will have donation forms on-hand which can document a $50 contribution to Cape Fear Biofuels for each batch provided.
How will the event be judged?
Similar to last years event, the audience will be your judge. As an added bonus we will also have a professional staff of tasters which will provide a more detailed assessment of your entry. This panel will include local brewmasters, shop owners, and anyone else we can find with a refined pallet.
What about prizes?
Prizes will be awarded for Best in Show (1st Place, Peoples Choice), Best in Show (1st Place, Judges Choice) and 2nd Place in the Peoples vote. Prizes will be awarded in the above order. Best in Show (1st Place, Peoples Choice) will have first pick of three prizes and so forth until all three winners are awarded. The prizes are not listed since, as always, the prizes are subject change (hopefully for the better!)
When do we need to be there?
A meet and greet for the brewers will start around 6PM. Cape Fear Biofuels staff will arrive at Red Dogs at 5PM if you need early access.
How is the venue set up?
Red Dogs has 2 stories and we plan to have beer on both floors. However, there are no elevators, so large kegerators will be confined to the downstairs area. This isnt a bad thing, just so you know ahead of time. All bottles and coldplate setups will be upstairs.
Are there hotels close by?

If you cant get enough of The Casserole, theyll be playing from 11PM-2AM at the Palm Room. Just a few blocks from Red Dogs. Please keep in mind that the Wrightsville Beach Police DO NOT tolerate loud, rowdy behavior and they have ruined more than a few tourists visits.
